Powering the Future: Solar MD to Build 3GWh Energy Storage Oasis in Richmond Park!

Solar MD, a leading sustainable technology company, has announced plans to construct a groundbreaking 3GWh energy storage facility in Richmond Park, located in Milnerton, Cape Town. This state-of-the-art facility will serve as the consolidated headquarters for Solar MD, allowing them to streamline their operations and meet the increasing demand for energy storage solutions.


Currently operating from multiple locations in Cape Town, Solar MD's decision to consolidate into a single facility marks a significant milestone in their growth. The new facility will comprise a spacious 11000sqm warehouse, 2200sqm of office space, and an impressive 500sqm showroom. Construction is scheduled to begin in August of this year, with completion and occupancy expected by mid-2024.

Richmond Park's southern precinct has been chosen as the ideal location for Solar MD's new facility. This vibrant area, known for its retail and logistics focus, will provide Solar MD with a prominent presence among esteemed neighbors. In close proximity to the Takealot Pick-up Point and distribution facility, Solar MD will benefit from enhanced exposure and brand visibility. The presence of the popular Richmond Corner shopping center within the precinct ensures convenient access to various retail amenities for Solar MD's staff and business partners.


One of the key advantages of Richmond Park is its excellent accessibility. Upgraded road access from the N1 and N7 highways will ensure seamless connectivity for Solar MD's operations, facilitating efficient logistics and operations.


Mia Kitshoff, Atterbury Leasing Manager for the Western Cape, expressed excitement about partnering with Solar MD in this significant consolidation project. Atterbury, a renowned property investor, and developer, is committed to supporting Solar MD's growth by providing a prominent location for their new headquarters.

The newly constructed facility has been designed with flexibility in mind, allowing Solar MD to accommodate future expansion plans. With 3000 sqm of potential additional space and ample parking capacity, Solar MD can adapt to evolving business needs and scale their operations accordingly.


Solar MD joins a prestigious list of industry leaders associated with the thriving Richmond Park development. Atterbury, the driving force behind the multi-billion Rand Richmond Park project, continues to invest in infrastructure to support the growth of the development. Gerrit van den Berg, Atterbury's Head of Developments for the Western Cape, confirms their commitment by investing R20 million to unlock an additional 25,000 sqm of development potential, ensuring the continued success of Richmond Park and its esteemed occupants.
